WEATHER ALERT DAY: Tuesday’s severe risk over; many left with flooding and without power

FINAL UPDATE:

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day is over as our severe threat has come to an end. No severe watches or warnings are in effect. Flood alerts do remain in effect as rain continues to fall early this morning.

There have been reports of tree damage and downed power lines across Pettis, Cooper, Randolph, and Boone counties. Flooded roads were reported in Boonville, Columbia, and Moberly, along with a water rescue at the intersection of Paris Rd. and Vandiver Drive.

SETUP

A slow moving cold front continues to work through Mid-Missouri, with the best potential for severe storms ahead of it. Along and behind, high moisture content will continue to drive the potential for high rainfall rates overnight.

FUTURETRACK

Storms will move from west to east, arriving in areas along Highway 65 by around 4-6 p.m., then push into the Highway 63 corridor between 6-8:00 p.m.

HAZARDS

Locations along and west of Highway 54 are in a level 2/5 severe risk for the potential of 60 mph winds and isolated 1" hail. While a quick spin-up tornado can't be ruled out, the risk is low due to a lack of lower level wind shear. Beyond the wind threat, the potential for flash flooding also looks to increase by Tuesday night as the atmosphere will be primed with moisture as dew points are in the 60s. 1-2" per hour rainfall rates are possible in more robust thunderstorms along the line, with 1-4" possible through Wednesday morning.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from Tuesday night through Wednesday morning nearly area-wide. Remember to never cross a flooded road, especially low water crossings.

Make sure to have the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather App downloaded if you have outdoor plans Tuesday evening, and get lightning alerts sent right to your location.
